I am interested in the neural basis of value-based decision-making and self-control, as well as in individual differences in impulsivity and trait self-control. Moreover, I investigate the effectiveness of hypnosis and autosuggestion as tools to influence or improve decision-making. For my research I use functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), explicit and implicit behavioural measures and questionnaires. Since September 2013 I lead the group „Volition and Motivation“, replacing Dr. Christine Stelzel during her parental leave.

I did my Bachelor’s degree in Psychobiology at the University of Amsterdam from 2004-2007. In 2008 I completed the Master’s programme Human Cognitive Neuropsychology at the University of Edinburgh. Afterwards, I carried out research at the Primate Research Institute of Kyoto University in Japan. In this time, I investigated synaesthesia and cross-modal correspondences in humans (adults and children) and in chimpanzees. Since September 2009 I have been working in Professor Henrik Walter’s team, first at the University of Bonn, then at the Charité in Berlin. From May 2010 to April 2013, I wrote my PhD thesis as a student of the Berlin School of Mind and Brain. My topic was „Impulse and Self-Control: Investigations using functionaI magnetic resonance imaging and hypnosis“.
